Roots

Where we came from

Yechezkel’s parents and sisters in Łódź and Etta’s family in Baltimore, followed by everything the archives have told us so far. Each finding is marked Confirmed when a document names our family, Likely when the evidence is strong but the deciding record has not been read, or Possible · unproven when it is only a name match. On the tree, people without a mark are confirmed.

New research from a JRI-Poland researcher (2026)

A JRI-Poland researcher who studied the Worcman family reported these in October 2026. The records were seen by the researcher and are not yet in hand, so they are marked Likely until the scans arrive.

Next. The 1904 Łódź marriage record (no. 332) should name Sura Worcman’s parents. It has been requested from the Łódź State Archive.

Chezzy’s great-great-grandparents

Likely His birth. Born Dec 16, 1923 (family date); likely c. 1917–18, per pre-war records (1919 Łódź address card, 1940 ghetto list). Possible · unproven Birthplace: not yet confirmed; likely near Opatów. The 1919 card says Klimontów, but no Klimontów birth record exists for him or his siblings (JRI-Poland researcher, 2026). Raised in Łódź.

The household in the ghetto

A. Yitzchak Aron Rotfogel: Chezzy's great-grandparents

Confirmed Ghetto address: Sulzfelder Str. 63 / flat 44 (ul. Brzezińska 63/44)

The ghetto list shows no other children at this address. The 1919 address card adds an older son, Mojżesz (b. 1904), likely the 'Moshe Meir' on the 1990 tree, who had left home, died before 1940, or lived elsewhere. No Pages of Testimony were found for this household, and none submitted by Yechezkel/Henry Vogel/Rotfogel.

No Pages of Testimony. No Yad Vashem Pages of Testimony have been found for Yitzchak Aharon, Sara, Fryda Ruchel or Tzirel, and none filed by Yechezkel; it appears none was ever filed. The family can still file them, so that their names are recorded at Yad Vashem.

Other Rotfogel families of Łódź

Connection unproven. These families carry the same surname in Łódź. None is linked to ours by a document yet; they are kept here as leads.

B. Rywen (Reuven) Rotfogel + Chana Laja née Morgensztern

Possible · unproven POSSIBLE relative, probably NOT a brother of Yitzchak Aharon: Pages of Testimony give Reuven's mother as Bracha, b. Kielce; the same submitter files for a Nowa Słupia family of Yosef & Bracha Rotfogel

Ghetto address: Cranach Str. 20 / flat 12 (ul. Żydowska 20); prewar Baluter Ring 2

C. Nachman Rotfogiel + Laja (née Szwarcbard)

Likely LIKELY Yechezkel’s uncle: Lejzer Rotfogel’s address card lists a son Nachman (b. 7 Mar 1899, Opatów), most likely this Nachman b. 1897; that makes him Yitzchak Aron’s younger brother if Lejzer is Yitzchak Aron’s father (likely)

Ghetto address: Hohensteiner Str. 53 / flat 29 (ul. Zgierska 53); prewar Herren 45

D. Mojżesz (Moses/Moniek/Moris) Rotfogel

Possible · unproven

Ghetto address: Franz Str. 17 / flat 24 and Rauch Gasse 42 / flat 15 (ul. Franciszkańska 17, Wolborska 42)

Arolsen also has a 1955 emigration record and a tracing case for a Mina Rotfogel b. 19 Mar 1915; it is unclear whether she is this family

E. Ita Rotfogiel with Henryk

Possible · unproven

Ghetto address: Hohensteiner Str. 18 / flat 20; prewar Moltke 8

Arolsen holds a postwar tracing request for Heinrich Henryk Rotvogel b. 6 Jan 1939 (Litzmannstadt), son of Jankel Rotvogel. This may be the same child; the father, Jankiel Rotfogel of Łódź, is on the 1945 survivor register (Yad Vashem 6164505)

F. Josef (Yosef) Rotfogel, tailor, + Chana Miriam née Lubinski
